Department of English

The Department of English came into existence with the upgradation of the college in 1968. An undergraduate course in English Language and Literature with Political Science and History of English as subsidiary subjects and with a sanctioned strength of 40 seats was introduced in that year. The Department started functioning with Prof. P.N. Kesava Kurup as HOD and Sri. Raghava Kurup, Sri. K. Vasudeva Kurup and Sri. G. Madhavan Nair as lecturers. Adv.S.P. Aravindakshan Pillai (High Court, Ernakulam), Sri. Vayalar Madhavan Kutty (Serial Director, Trivandrum) and Sri. K.N. Devadas, Smt. Yesoda Girija (members of our faculty) are some of the outstanding alumni of the Department.
The Department offers three patterns of course programmes for UG, a General English programme for BA/BSc./B.Com. and a Communicative English programme for BSc. Environment and Water Management students at the first and second year degree levels and an English literature programme with Political Science and History of Literature as subsidiaries.

UGC Add-on Course

With a view to make the students of this rural area positive and confident to use various opportunities awaiting them. ESP or English for Special Purpose is a UGC approved Career Oritented Programme. It intends to introduce career and market-oriented skill enhancing add-on course that will provide utility for job, self-employment and empowerment of the students. This is a flexible system of Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma Programme which will run parallel to the conventional BA/BSc./BCom degree.
